Tips and Advice / 10 things you should know about writing
« Last post by Futurelegend001 on May 11, 2014, 03:23:01 pm »
1. To poison a nation, poison its stories. A demoralised nation tells demoralised stories to itself. Beware of the storytellers who are not fully conscious of the importance of their gifts, and who are irresponsible in the application of their art.
2. The greatest religions convert the world through stories.
3. The fact of storytelling hints at a fundamental human unease, hints at human imperfection. Where there is perfection there is no story to tell.
4. Stories can conquer fear, you know. They can make the heart bigger.
5. The mystery of storytelling is the miracle of a single living seed which can populate whole acres of human minds.
6. It should be clear by now that it is you, great readers of the world, who are at the root of the storyteller’s complex joy.
7. Storytellers ought not to be too tame. They ought to be wild creatures who function adequately in society. They are best in disguise. If they lose all their wildness, they cannot give us the truest joys.
9. The best writing is not about the writer, the best writing is absolutely not about the writer, it’s about us, it’s about the reader.
10. Some people say when we are born we’re born into stories. I say we’re also born from stories.
Ben Okri is a Nigerian novelist living in London. His 1991 novel, the Famished Road, won the Booker Prize.

Your Poem / I now hate my neighbour
« Last post by Futurelegend001 on May 11, 2014, 12:22:28 pm »
Oh how I fear my neighbour,
just like the snows hate the sun,
I am one the many son,
of this black Nigeria soil,
where my father and fathers had toiled.
 I fear my neighbour.

Before, I used to love him,
before, I used to adore her,
I knew she came from the north,
I understand how he talks,
because he is from the western south,
even when anger fly from his mouth,
I can believe he is still the one
I know from the south-east.

Before I used to love him
but now I cannot go near him,
When I see him with a poly bag,
I want to give a big shout,
Before I used to adore her,
but now, I fear for my life,
I don't want to be tricked to 'Soka',
I don't want him to give me money,
or even his enticing honey,
because I don't want to disapear

Who was there when the world was sweet,
then we could play with kids,
and even take the lost ones home
but today, Oh!
We dare not touch a child or help arrange
her head,
if we do not want to be set ablaze,
I have stopped helping my neighbour collect money in a public transport,
because I do not want to be transported out of the bus.

I open my eyes well before I enter my neighbour's car,
I dare not buy her locally made cream,
or herbs
because of what I had seen.
I dare not direct that girl who is at sea,
or that man that have lost is way,
because I do not want to be taken away.

I fear my neighbour,
since fear brings anger,
and anger brings hatred,
I think I need to learn to love like Jesus,
he will help me live without fear because I have him,
If he was not with me
I think I will still hate my neighbour.

Rant Here / A call to read and write
« Last post by Futurelegend001 on May 10, 2014, 05:55:00 pm »
You need to read more and write more.

We will die one day, don't you think so.
The only that help us remember some people is the what people had written about them.
Before people remember you must have written history or you are an history. You can be both by reading and writing I call on all and sundry to read
